At Pixar, we frequently utilize procedural material networks for shading.  It has many benefits, including being able to re-position the asset at different camera depths without having to worry about the texture resolution.  Procedural shading also allows for easy and dynamic breakup variation across multiple instances.

These lessons will walk you through the basics of procedural shaders, through to some practical everyday examples that you can apply to your shading networks and props.
