I knew pretty much right away that I wanted the truck to be the main character of the piece.  Having already had most of this model in an older form as an ice cream truck, I set about turning it into a UFO-hunting van.

In the real world, you often see re-purposed vehicles.  A van that once drove around town serving ice cream was up for sale and purchased by a UFO hunter, who converted it for another use.  The more I thought about the backstory, the more the character developed.

The first step was to add some extra geometry to the van to show that it had been customized and equipped with a UFO-hunting kit.  Radar dishes, CCTV cameras, bigger off-road wheels, a bull bar, and a roof rack full of tracking equipment.  

Once the outside was done, I then concentrated on the inside.  As I progressed with some initial renders, I realised I wanted to add some monitors and ‘light’ to the inside of the truck, so I added desks and monitors.
